Everyday Preparedness

In contrast to the overhyped and overcommercialized "preparedness" mentality, what I see lacking is everyday preparedness -- being able to take care of those seldom and sporadic events where you need to be prepared, but you only have the contents of your pocket or your car to rely upon.

  • Business cards (good for either business or to use instead of scrawling your number on a napkin for a girl)

I carry the following items in the messenger bag:

  • second car key (esp for other people or others' car)
  • duplicate destination info
  • hat, ear plugs

  • Cash
  • usb stick w {todo, work, bookmarks, my documents}
  • deodorant
  • todo printout
  • pens




I carry the following items in my car:

  • Empty gas can (do not carry a full one. It will vent and will make everything stink like gas. It will also over-inflate when it gets warm in the car. And it is a fire hazard.

  • toothbrush
