Private Data Threats portal

From MKRD.info Wiki

People have not yet woken up and realized that privacy no longer exists on the Internet.

  • People willingly give out their private and identifying information on social websites.
  • All websites collect all of your private information (any site that will ship a product to you, for example) and you don't think for a second before giving it away.
  • You give out your information thru things such as resumes, thinking that your data will only be seen by valid job offering entities.
  • Many websites collect information, that you freely give out, that have no business collecting or knowing that information (my email provider has a VERY long list of personal questions they would love to find out about me).
  • Advertising on the internet tracks you as you navigate the internet, even if you do not click on any advertisements. I am now seeing blatant and rude advertising from websites I have purchased on, or subscribed to. I never clicked on advertisements to land on those websites. But Google's / Yahoo's AdChoices ads track me and show ads based on websites I have visited before. Therefore, they store my IP address and wait for me to pop up on the Internet again.
  • "Anonymous" posts can be linked back to real people' names thru server logs
  • A single break anywhere in time will forever expose your private information.
  • How can people believe and expect services be done for them for free online, without resale of all of their collected private data, even if online advertising is shown as well (but does not provide 100% of revenue for those website, rest comes from resale of your private data). For example, by getting 250 free single-sided crappy quality business cards on toilet paper thin stock, and with advertising on the back, those free cards are not fully paid for by the advertising on the back of the card and an expectation for you to do future business with that company, but by resale of all the private data you provide when disclosing your private data!
  • Once your data enters the system, it will never be deleted.
  • How can people reasonably expect to reuse same e-mail address and/or passwords across a multitude of entries without worrying that a leak anywhere anytime will bring down the whole wall of their "security".

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Why would an services provider like yahoo or hotmail ever need my real name, address, alternative/original e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc?
  • Why does every company, even ones that sell software only digitally, require my real name, address, and phone number?
  • How can servers be allowed to keep IP logs?
  • Why do email companies/isps link IP addresses to real people so readily?

Solutions that you must research:

  • How to surf anonymously
  • Services like email that do not ask for personal details, do not log users, nor provide or collect any personal information on request to anyone, not even law enforcement.
  • Always provide fake data unless you are required by law to disclose your real identity

Here is something that I practice, and you should as well. When giving out my last name anywhere on the Internet, I truncate the last name, and affix the name of the entity that is asking for my information. That way a) if my data becomes public, it is not searchable by the exact term, b) I can track how my information was sold and resold. The USPS will still deliver the package to my door as it will match good enough for a human to understand.

For example, if my last name were Spears, and I was shopping on amazon (for sanity, perhaps), I would give out my last name as Spear_amazon
